Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have strengthened their squad with experienced midfielder Kalu Nweke ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season, www.aclsports.com reports.
Nweke, 27, featured for Enyimba Football Club last season, but after failed negotiations for a new deal, the midfielder has opted to pitch his tent with the CAF Confederation Cup campaigners and has signed a deal until the end of the season.
The Owerri-born midfielder has spent a decade in the NPFL, and having won the league at Rangers International in the 2023/24 NPFL season, he is expected to bring his wealth of experience to the Oluyole Warriors. Nweke also wore the captain’s armband during his time in Aba and is likely to be part of the leadership group at the Ibadan-based club.
Nweke started at Abia Warriors in the 2014/15 season, and his football journey has taken him to Kwara United, back to Abia Warriors, before a season stint with Rangers, where he won the NPFL title with them. He then moved to Enyimba, where he has spent the past two seasons, as well as featuring in the CAF Confederation Cup two seasons ago.
The midfielder, who has over 150 NPFL appearances under his belt, could be making his debut for Shooting Stars when they face Inter Lagos in the season opener on August 28th.
