World record holder Tobi Amusan headlines the 29 athletes invited by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to camp ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, www.aclsports.com reports.
The two-time Commonwealth Games champion Amusan tops the list, which features several of Nigeria’s leading track and field names across sprinting, jumps, and throws.
Also included are sprinters Kayinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe, both expected to play key roles in the men’s sprint events, alongside other emerging talents invited to the national camp.
In the field events, long jump star Ese Brume and shot put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi are among the big names called up, while a strong mix of athletes have been selected across relay and individual events.
The women’s squad also features Blessing Ogundiran, Rosemary Chukwuma, Tima Godbless, Miracle Ezechukwu, Olayinka Olajide, and Obi Chukwuka, who will all look to boost Nigeria’s medal hopes in Glasgow.
On the men’s side, selections include Alaba Akintola, Israel Okon, Udodi Onwuzurike, Samuel Ogazi, Edidiong Udo, Tyler Johnson, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Jami Schlueter, and Chinecherem Nnamdi, among others, across sprint and field events.
The invited athletes will now report to camp as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s bid to make a strong impact at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
