NPFL champions, Remo Stars, moved to the summit with a hard-fought win over Warri Wolves in Abeokuta, as Ikorodu City secured a point against Shooting Stars in Ibadan, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Sky Blue Stars, who defeated newly promoted Kun Khalifat in Aba on Monday, were made to work for the win by the Seasiders at their adopted home ground in Abeokuta. Samson Olasupo with the game’s only goal in the second half as the Ikenne side dethroned the Warri side, who were joint-top at the start of this match day.
In other match day three games decided on Sunday, Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City settled for a 1-1 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. The Oluyole Warriors went in front through Sodiq Ibrahim’s first goal of the season in the 10th minute, before the Oga Boys grabbed the equalizer on the stroke of halftime through CHAN Eagles player Shola Adelani. The result left the two sides without a win after three games in the new league season.
It finished goalless in Aba between former champions Enyimba and Nasarawa United, as it was the same outcome between Rivers United and Elkanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. Newly promoted Barau FC were held to a draw by Bendel Insurance in Kano. In Ilorin, it was a comfortable 2-0 win for Kwara United against Kun Khalifat in front of their home fans. Johnmark Shirsha and Emeka Kingsley with the goals in either half for the Harmony Boys, who claimed their first win of the season. Jonathan Mairiga was the match winner as Wikki Tourists continued their fine start with a 1-0 win over Abia Warriors in Bauchi.
2024 Champions, Rangers, compounded the woes of Plateau United with a 2-0 win at the Cathedral on Sunday. Chidozie Iwundu and Chidiebere Nwobodo with the goals for the Flying Antelopes. In Katsina, Katsina United needed a late goal from Azeez Falolu to beat Kano Pillars. Similarly, Ismail Sarki’s 27th-minute goal was all Niger Tornadoes needed to end the winning streak of Bayelsa United in Minna.
After three match days, Kano Pillars, Plateau United, Kun Khalifat, and Barau FC find themselves in the bottom four, while Remo Stars, Wikki Tourists, Bayelsa United, and Warri Wolves complete the top four, respectively. Action returns next weekend.
