Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Rangers international and Akwa United stayed on top of their respective group standings after 1-0 wins in Thursday’s Match Day 18 games.

Rangers left it late to beat Kwara United 1-0 at the Cathedral in Enugu, Felix Ogbuke’s 80th minute free kick ending a run of three consecutive games for Gbenga Ogunbote’s men and ensure they extend their lead on top of Group A back to six points.

Rangers’ nearest challengers Enyimba saw their twelve matches unbeaten run ended by Rivers United in Port Harcourt through Ossy Martins’ sixth goal of the season while a much changed MFM FC side drew 1-1 at Wikki Tourists to stay third. Niger Tornadoes defeated Katsina United 1-0 to keep their hopes of safety alive.

In Group B, Akwa United scored deep into stoppage time to secure a priceless 1-0 away win at Go Round FC in Omoku. Godspower Aniefiok headed home to shatter the hearts of fans of the modest side and further tighten his side’s grip to top spot in Group B.
