Nigerian players abroad enjoyed a standout weekend, with Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide winning the Coppa Italia with AS Roma Femminile, while Chidinma Okeke also lifted the Concacaf W Champions Cup with Club América Femenil, www.aclsports.com reports.
Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide both celebrated Coppa Italia success with AS Roma Femminile after their 1-0 victory over Juventus in the final at the Romeo Menti Stadium in Vicenza on Sunday.
Oladipo started and played the full match, while Babajide was an unused substitute as Roma secured a domestic double following their Serie A triumph earlier in the season.
After a goalless and tightly contested first half, Roma eventually broke the deadlock in the 80th minute through Manuela Giugliano, whose close-range finish earned the club their third Coppa Italia title and their second domestic double in history.
Elsewhere in Mexico, Super Falcons defender Chidinma Okeke celebrated continental success with Club América Femenil after they defeated Washington Spirit 5-3 in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup final at Estadio Hidalgo.
Okeke came off the bench as América became the first Mexican side to win the competition in a dramatic encounter against Washington Spirit, which featured Nigerians Gift Monday and Deborah Abiodun.
América started strongly with early goals from Aylín Aviléz and Geyse, but Washington Spirit fought back before and after half-time through a Sofia Cantore strike and a brace from Rosemonde Kouassi. América regained control in the closing stages, with Geyse equalising after a defensive error, before late goals from Irene Guerrero and an own goal from Spirit’s Esme Morgan secured the victory.
The title completed a memorable week for Okeke, who also won the Liga MX Femenil Clausura crown with América earlier in the week.
Gift Monday featured as a substitute for Washington Spirit, while Deborah Abiodun, who returned to the matchday squad in the semi-finals after injury, was again included for the final but did not play.
Earlier on Saturday, Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo were part of the Pachuca squad that secured third place in the competition following a convincing 3-0 victory over NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Although both Nigerians remained on the bench, Pachuca bounced back from their semi-final defeat with an impressive performance in front of their home fans.
Club América’s victory also secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and the inaugural 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, where they will join newly crowned UEFA Women’s Champions League winners FC Barcelona Femení.
