Premier League side, Manchester United have completed the record transfer of English defender, Harry Maguire, the club announced on Monday.

Maguire put pen to paper on a six-year contract with an option for a further year after joining from fellow PL side, Leicester City, for a record £80 million.

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City, ” United said in an official statement.

The deal means the English international becomes the most expensive defender of all time, surpassing the £75m Liverpool paid for Dutch international, Virgil Van Dijk in January, 2018.

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club, ” an excited Maguire said after signing his contract.

“When Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity. From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team, ” he added.

United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is also excited by his latest signing whom he described as calm and “one of the best in the world.”

“Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the game today and I am delighted we have secured his signature, ” Ole said.

“He is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch, with the ability to remain calm under pressure, I can see he will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.”

Maguire joined Leicester in 2017 from relegated Hull City and played 76 matches for the Foxes scoring five goals.
