Remo Stars have suffered relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Ikenne side, who were first-time champions of the NPFL last term, needed all three points against Bendel Insurance in Benin on Sunday, but played out a 1-1 draw in the close-door match.
Victor Mbaoma scored his 14th league goal of the campaign to hand his side the lead on the stroke of halftime before the home side scored a stoppage-time equaliser through Chijioke Akuneto.
Remo Stars started the day slightly above the drop zone, but with the wins for Niger Tornadoes and Warri Wolves, the Sky Blue Stars sat one outside the safe zone. Kwara United lost 4-0 at relegated Bayelsa United, but were outside the relegation waters by virtue of goal difference, leaving Remo Stars’ fate hanging in the balance.

The final game of the match day between Kun Khalifat and already relegated Wikki Tourists started late due to a heavy downpour. Following the completion of the game in Benin, Kun Khalifat needed just a point in Owerri to confirm Remo Stars’ relegation, and they got more than that to secure safety.
Jonathan Mairiga opened the scoring for the visitors before the home side equalised through Uchechukwu Onuoha. Lekan Gabriel then handed the Pride of Owerri the lead before Onuoha completed his brace late on. The win all but confirmed Remo Stars’ relegation to the second division, their first since returning to the topflight in 2021.
Remo Stars joined Elkanemi Warriors, Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists to complete the four teams that will be playing in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.
