Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Akeem Busari as head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 girls’ national team, the Flamingos, www.aclsports.com reports.

His appointment was approved by the Federation’s Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee, as the team prepares for upcoming international matches.

Busari, currently in charge of NWFL side Pacesetter Queens FC, takes over from Bankole Olowookere, who departs after a notable spell in charge that saw the Flamingos secure a historic bronze medal at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

Busari brings a wealth of experience in the women’s game and is expected to build on the team’s recent progress while guiding a new generation of players on the continental and global stage.

The new head coach faces an immediate test with the qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on the horizon. The Flamingos are set to take on the winner of the preliminary tie between Niger Republic and Guinea, with the first leg scheduled away from home next month.
