Brazil forwards Vinícius Jr and Matheus Cunha shared their thoughts after Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0 in their second group match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia, www.aclsports.com reports.
Matheus Cunha scored a brace, his first World Cup goals, while Vinícius Jr also found the net and provided an assist as Brazil claimed an important win.
Vinícius Jr said the result reflected Brazil’s desire to keep improving as the tournament progresses.
“Winning the World Cup for Brazil means a lot to me. Scoring three goals gives us confidence to keep improving in the competition and gives us more calmness for the next match. The first game was completely different because of the pressure of the opening match. Today everyone was more relaxed, and that helped us play our football.”
Vinícius also explained his tactical role and how Brazil’s system helped create attacking space.
“Today I played in a different position, where the coach asked me to play inside, between the two centre-backs. I don’t usually play there, but whenever the coach asks me and says I have to play there, I score goals.”
“I believe the coach will choose the players and the formation well for each match, depending on the opponent. Today we managed to attack those spaces very well. It is our best way of playing because we have very fast players who can attack the defensive line and hurt our opponents.”
The forward also reacted to Raphinha’s injury and Neymar’s importance to the squad.
“It was the hamstring. I’m very sad for Rafa. We hope it’s nothing serious and that he can stay with us until the end of the World Cup.”
“Neymar is a very important player for us. He is my idol and has always given me a lot of support. We hope he can return and help us throughout the tournament.”
Matheus Cunha reflected on his performance after scoring twice in the match.
“It’s very rewarding,” Cunha said. “We work so hard in pursuit of so many things, and without a doubt, goals are one of our focuses. So, at a World Cup, being able to score goals and help my team, I think that’s everything I’ve always dreamed of.”
He added that missing the previous tournament made the moment even more meaningful.
“Not being at the last World Cup, imagining how wonderful it could have been, and now being here and trying to do everything possible to make it what we have always dreamed of, it’s an amazing feeling.”
With four points and top of the group, Brazil will face Scotland in their next fixture as they push for a place in the round of 32.
