The Super Falcons of Nigeria moved one place up to 38th in the latest FIFA Ranking thus maintaining top spot on the continent, with the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon and Banyana Banyana of South Africa following closely in second and third positions respectively.

Despite winning the eleventh edition of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in December last year, the Super Falcons dropped to 39th in the subsequent FIFA rankings. Hence, the team needed to do much better to move up the ladder in the world ratings.

With three wins in six international friendlies in the China and Cyprus Invitational Tournaments the Super Falcons moved up to 38th in the world. However a winless run in six games sees South Africa drop by one place to 49th with Cameroon staying put in 46th as a result of their inactivity so far.

On the global stage, reigning World Champions USA maintain top spot with Germany following closely while 2019 Women’s World Cup hosts and Super Falcons Group A opponents, Le Bleues of France relinquished third place to England while slipping to fourth.

This will be the last FIFA ranking before the Women’s World Cup in June with the next one expected to be released in June. The Super Falcons and fellow African compatriots – South Africa and Cameroon will look to put in a good performance in order to excel at the next FIFA Women’s ranking.
