Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have begun their training camp in Abuja ahead of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, www.aclsports.com reports.
The global tournament is scheduled to take place in Poland from 5 to 27 September, with 28 players called up by the technical crew as the team begins its preparations for the competition. So far, 16 players have arrived at camp, while the remaining invited players are expected to join the squad in the coming days.
Head coach Moses Aduku and his assistants have wasted no time in putting the players through their paces, with the team already involved in intensive training sessions aimed at improving fitness, sharpening tactics and building cohesion ahead of the tournament.
The Falconets earned their place at the World Cup following a strong qualifying campaign. Nigeria overcame Rwanda with a 5-0 aggregate victory in the second round before defeating Senegal 3-2 on aggregate in the next stage. They eventually secured qualification after edging Malawi 3-2 on aggregate in the final round, maintaining Nigeria’s record as the only African nation to feature in every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup since its inception in 2002.
Placed in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia, two-time silver medallists Nigeria will be hoping to produce another memorable campaign at the tournament. The Falconets finished runners-up in 2010 and 2014, while also reaching the semi-finals in 2012, and will be aiming to go one step further by winning their first-ever FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup title.
