English Championship side, Birmingham City, have confirmed the signing of Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 27-year-old, who left Turkish side Fenerbahce after the expiration of his contract, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal through to the summer of 2028.
Speaking after the move was completed, Osayi-Samuel explained why he chose to join the Blues.
“I think it’s the project. I spoke to the owner, I spoke to the manager, and it’s a project with ambitions about what they want to do,” Osayi-Samuel stated.
“Of course they did well last season getting promoted, and the ambition is not just to compete, but to get straight to the Premier League.
“Those are my ambitions too. I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do, and I think Birmingham City are giving me a platform to showcase that so I think those are the main reasons I decided to come here,” He concluded.
Osayi-Samuel is well-acquainted with English football, having risen through Blackpool’s youth system before joining Championship side QPR in 2017, where he went on to make over 100 appearances at Loftus Road.
Osayi-Samuel is set to join his new teammates for the side’s pre-season training camp in Portugal.
Osayi-Samuel, who has been capped 22 times for Nigeria, was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished runners-up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
