Head coach of Crown FC, Deji Ayeni believes that promotion to the top flight is possible for his side as the Nigeria National League Super 8 play-offs begin on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Crown FC, who made it to the playoffs from the Southern Conference, will battle Kun Khalifat, Warri Wolves and Osun United for one of the two slots meant for the region. Meanwhile, Wikki Tourists, Yobe Desert Stars, Doma FC, and Barau FC came through the Northern Conference. The Super 8 Playoffs will be played from July 5 – 12, 2025
Speaking to aclsports.com in a chat, the former Akwa United coach spoke about how tough it was to pick the play-off ticket.
“We were able to qualify from a tough and highly competitive group. It was a keenly contested regular phase where everyone wanted the Super 8 ticket. We are happy to be here,” Ayeni said.
Crown FC last played in the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2014, and Ayeni believes the current squad is good enough to pick a promotion ticket.
“Crown FC last played in the NPFL in 2014. Our current team is a mix of experienced and young players. There are some quality players that have played in the topflight before, and some of them that had a good season in other clubs during his NNL campaign.
“We brought all of them together to form a formidable team. I think the squad is flexible, where every player can be deployed in multiple positions to help the team.
“We have what it takes to qualify this team to the NPFL. I’m not disturbed about the challenges in the regular season. We are simply focused on the task at hand so that we can give our best on the pitch. At the end of the day, we want the team back in the Premier League; it is 100% possible,” Ayeni who joined Crown FC for this season concluded.
The Ajilete Warriors will face Kun Khalifat in their opening game on Saturday, 5th July at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State. Kick off is by 2pm.
