Striker Victor Osimhen is set to miss Nigeria’s important 2027 AFCON qualifiers doubleheader against Tanzania due to injury, following a report, reports www.aclsports.com.
Osimhen, who has not played for Nigeria since the 2025 AFCON semifinal defeat to Morocco in Rabat, is a huge doubt for this month’s set of games after a fresh update from the Turkish club.
”Victor Osimhen: In the UEFA Champions League match we played against VfB Stuttgart, our player Victor Osimhen sustained a strain in his left knee, and MRI examinations detected a loose body,” reads a statement from the club.
”An arthroscopic knee surgery will be performed tomorrow (Saturday) at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by our club doctor, Yener İnce. For this reason, our player has been removed from the squad for tomorrow’s match against Amed S. F.”
The statement also confirmed that Osimhen will miss the game against second-placed Amed SK in the Turkish Super Lig. Consequently, he is expected to miss Nigeria’s doubleheader against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, as he is expected to be out for an extended period.
Nigeria will host the first leg of the encounter next Friday in Uyo before travelling to Tanzania for the reverse fixture four days later.
Following the defeat against Guinea-Bissau last time out, Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles will aim to get the qualification back on track in his absence with maximum points against the East African side before the final round of matches in March 2027.
