Imo Grasshopper beat Defenders Babes 29 to 27 goals in women’s match on Day 1 of the 2024 Ardova Handball Premier League (phase 1) in Benin City, Edo State.

Imo Grasshoppers who struggled last season did not wait time in sending a strong signal to Defenders Babes who finished second position last season.

The win over Defenders Babes has put Imo Grasshoppers in fourth position with three points and a goal difference of two.

Newly promoted Rivers Queens held Rima Queens in a draw (29 to 29 goals) in a entertaining encounter which made the fans at the indoor sports hall of Samuel Ogbemudia stadium stand on their feet in the last five minutes of the match.

Defending champions Safety Babes punished newcomers COAS babes 31 to 18 goals in a one sided encounter. Safety Babes rushed COAS Babes from the blast of the whistle converting most of their chances. Plateau Peacocks defeated Delta Queens by 30 to 26 goals while rejuvenated Seadisers Babes overpowered host Bendel Dynamos by 34 to 19 goals.

After match day 1, Seasider Babes is sitting on top of the log with three points and a goal difference of 15; Safety Babes is second with three points and a goal difference of 13 goals while Plateau Peacocks is third with three points and a goal difference of four.
