Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m team of Chigozie Rosemary, Jennifer Chukwuka Obi, Miracle Ezechukwu and Rosemary Chukwuma won a fourth straight gold medal in the event at the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Ghana www.aclsports.com reports.
The quartet delivered a commanding performance in the final, clocking 42.94 seconds to set a new championship record and become the first team in the event’s history to break the 43-second barrier.
That result extended Nigeria’s dominance in the event, as they retained the continental title for a fourth straight edition following victories in Asaba (2018), Mauritius (2022) and Douala (2024).
Liberia claimed silver, while hosts Ghana took bronze. Nigeria also secured silver in the men’s 4x100m after a closely fought final.
The team of Favour Ashe, James Taiwo Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin and Chidera Ezeakor, with Ashe running the anchor leg, clocked 38.70 seconds, finishing behind Côte d’Ivoire, who won in 38.52 seconds. Ghana took bronze in 38.74 seconds.
After four days of competition, Team Nigeria have now accumulated three gold, four silver and three bronze medals, taking their total haul to ten medals at the championships.
