Will Naby Keita play at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations? Many locals in Guinea are praying and hoping to see the Syli National’s most influential player don the national colours in Egypt come June 21.

However, it remains uncertain as the 24-year-old midfielder, who sustained injury early May, has been ruled out of game action by his club Liverpool for at least two months.

Keita has been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in England while his national team is carrying out Afcon preparations in Marrakech, Morocco.

Guinea coach Paul Put is confident of the player’s availability when they take on tournament hosts Egypt in a friendly on June 16, five days after a warm up against Benin.

“Keita leaves Liverpool after training in the morning and arrives Monday evening in Morocco,” Put said. “I put a lot of pressure on Liverpool to send him as soon as possible. “In the end, I said that if Naby does not come now, it will be difficult to put him on the list for AFCON.

“He said he will play against Egypt,” the Belgian coach concluded.

Guinea have been drawn in Group B against Nigeria, Madagascar and Burundi.
