Nigeria international Deborah Abiodun, has been named the National Women’s Soccer League Rookie of the Month for September, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 21-year-old was recalled by Washington Spirit from her loan at Dallas Trinity FC in late August and made her NWSL debut days later in a 1–1 draw against Chicago Stars. She wasted no time getting on the scoresheet, netting in a 4–0 victory over Vancouver Rise FC in the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup.

September brought her first Rookie of the Month award, after starting three of four matches, topping the Spirit in tackles and duels, and finishing second league-wide in tackles. With an 87.3% passing accuracy in central areas, she added control and stability to the midfield.

Her performances have been central to the Spirit’s unbeaten run, a streak that clinched their playoff spot. Abiodun will now aim to carry that form into the postseason and the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup.
