African champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress have stepped up their preparations for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, with a series of training camps and international friendlies lined up ahead of the tournament in Berlin, www.aclsports.com reports.
The World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from 4 to 13 September in Berlin, Germany, with D’Tigress set to fine-tune their squad through a series of training camps and friendly matches across the United States, China and Spain before heading to the German capital.
Preparations begin in Chicago, Illinois, where the team will hold a training camp from 29 July to 2 August before travelling to Haikou, China. In China, D’Tigress are scheduled to play three preparatory games against the host nation between 3 and 14 August.
Following their stay in Asia, the seven-time African champions will continue their programme in Spain. Tenerife will host meetings with Spain and Belgium from 15 to 24 August before the team moves to Zaragoza, where further fixtures against Mali and Puerto Rico are planned between 25 August and 3 September.
The fixtures will provide head coach Rena Wakama and her technical crew with an opportunity to assess the squad against different opposition before the World Cup tips off in Berlin.
D’Tigress have been drawn in Group B alongside France, Hungary and Korea Republic. Nigeria will begin their campaign against Korea Republic on 4 September before facing Hungary on 5 September and concluding the group phase against France on 7 September.
D’Tigress secured qualification for the World Cup following their successful campaign at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket and will be aiming to make another deep run on the world stage after reaching the quarter-finals in 2018.
