Weightlifting: Six Nigerians hit Uganda for Africa Youth/Junior Championships

Six Nigerian weightlifters are currently in Uganda for this year’s Africa Youth/Junior Weightlifting Championship. The tournament started at the weekend and is expected to end on October 14th, 2017.

The Technical Director of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Chris Nwadei said four junior and two youth weightlifters consisting of three male as well as three female will participate in the championships.

He told aclsport.com that Islamiyat Yusuf (-53kg) and Joseph Edidong (-62kg) are in for the youth category. In the junior category, Nwadei said Mary Uweh (-48kg), Fatima Yakuba (-53kg), Agboro Omovigho (-62kg) and Micheal Chinemerem (- 85KG) will fly the colors of the country. The young lads will be guided by; Nurudeen Sulaiman, Evelyn Okuofoh and Balkisu Musa.

According to the technical Director, the federation’s target is to participate in next year’s Commonwealth Games. The Weightlifters are competing in a total of 15 weight categories at the event (8 for men and 7 for women).
