Nigeria will round off their World Cup qualification campaign against Lesotho and Benin, as they look to pick the sole automatic qualification ticket of the Group. The Super Eagles are three points off Benin and South Africa ahead of the last round of matches.
Ekong, while speaking to NFF Media after the team’s training session in Polokwane, stressed the readiness of the boys ahead of the crucial first game against Lesotho on Friday.
“We are optimistic. We’ll always fight to the end,” Troost-Ekong said.
“We never stop believing. Two crucial games ahead, the first against Lesotho on Friday, then we return home. Right now, all focus is on Lesotho. The boys are in camp, focused, and the spirit is high.”
The Saudi-based defender also added that the group is ready to give it all, with full concentration on Friday’s game first, and then the final group game against Benin later.
“It’s been the same for us all along we know we must win these games. It’s great that everyone sees the opportunity now, but we’ve always believed. We’re optimistic and fully concentrated on Friday’s match,” he concluded.
Friday’s penultimate group game against the Likuena (Crocodiles) of Lesotho will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, and kick-off has been scheduled for 5pm (Nigerian time).
