Super Eagles of Nigeria will be returning to training this evening ahead of Thursday’s crucial 2026 World Cup playoff game against the Panthers of Gabon, www.aclsports.com reports.

Despite the team’s bus being prepared to leave for the training site, a full-blown crisis broke out on Tuesday evening when the players refused to train. Having held just a session on Monday, the side was expected to take to the pitch again after the arrival of striker Victor Osimhen and a couple of others.

However, things took a different turn in the evening as the team’s bus was at the RIVE Hotel and failed to leave for training as scheduled. It was later reported that the squad was protesting their unpaid allowances and bonuses.

All through the night and early hours of Wednesday, the whole team was in discussions with the NFF and the National Sports Commission over a possible resolution. Just before 5pm, the team confirmed through its media officer that a resolution had been reached and that the team will return to training shortly. Team captain William Troost-Ekong also took to X to confirm the information from the NFF.

Although a temporary solution has been reached, the episode has once again exposed the lingering tension between the players and the NFF. The ongoing problem of unpaid wages, bonuses, and allowances — some outstanding for multiple international windows — continues to dampen team spirit and disrupt proper preparation.

The Super Eagles are now expected to have their second and final training session ahead of tomorrow’s game against Gabon at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium. Kick-off is by 5pm (Nigerian time).
