Enyimba FC of Aba were handed a comprehensive bashing by Club Athletique Renaissance Aiglon Brazzaville in their 2018 CAF Confederation Cup second group game.
Three goals within six disastrous first half minutes condemned the two-time African champions to a 3-0 defeat in the hands of the Congolese side at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts went in front in the fourteenth minute through Racine Louamba. The striker reacted fastest inside the box to head home a rebound after Enyimba’s Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda saved an effort.
Enyimba almost replied immediately but striker Wasiu Alalade headed Stanley Dimgba’s cross over the bar.
Paul Aigbogun’s men were made to pay in the seventeenth minute when Cabwey Kivutuka latched onto a through pass to double the hosts lead.
Two then became three shortly afterwards when Dicha Liema pounced on poor defending from Enyimba in the nineteenth minute to give them a healthy 3-0 lead going into the break.
Although Enyimba became better thereafter, they ultimately failed to muster anything out of the game after a number of missed opportunities by their strikers.
Enyimba drop to third on the table ahead of the group’s other game between Djoliba and AC Williamsville in Bamako.
