C/Games: Team Nigeria begin campaign in Gold Coast

Team Nigeria Boxing, Table Tennis and Weightlifting athletes will compete on Day 1 at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The men’s team consisting of Veteran Table Tennis player, Segun Toriola (2010 Commonwealth champion), in form Aruna Quadri, Nigeria number two seeded player, Omotayo Olajide, Bode Abiodun and Jamilu Azeez in Nigeria’s first game at the games.

The team captained by Toriola will play Belize by 3am and Malaysia by 9:30am (GMT)

In the boxing event, Ogun state Adeola Soyoye competes in the Men’s up to 60kg Round of 32 against Thadius Katau of Papua New Guinea by 9:47am while Nigeria Army’s Osita Umeh competes in the Men’s up to 69kg Round of 32 Manoj Kumar of India by 10:47am.

Elsewhere; African Junior Champion and debutant Monica Uweh plans seeking glory in the 48kg of the weightlifting event by 5.12am while Favour Agboro also competes in the men’s 62kg.
