Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Enyimba FC are the remaining Nigerian side in the final draws for the 2018 CAF inter-club football competitions billed to hold at the CAF headquarters in Cairo on Monday.
Enyimba, winners of the Champions League in 2003 and 2004 are competing in the Confederation Cup this year and finished top of Group C after a stoppage time 1-0 win over Club Athletique Renaissance Aiglons (CARA) Brazaville in Aba last Wednesday.
By the virtue of Wednesday’s win, Enyimba will go into Monday’s draws, sitting alongside North African sides Raja Casablanca, RS Berkane and USM Alger who, like Enyimba all finished top of their groups. The People’s Elephant’s victim on Wednesday, CARA also progressed as the second placed team in Group C.
Since both sides that played in the same group cannot face each other, Enyimba will be drawn against either of Rayon Sports of Rwanda, AS Vita of Congo or Al Masry of Egypt in the quarter-final.
First leg of the quarter-final games will be held on the weekend of September 16 with the second leg holding a week later. Part of the advantages of topping the group will see Enyimba host the second leg of the quarter-final clash in their newly renovated Stadium in Aba on September 23 against their would-be opponents.
Monday’s draws which will be preceded by the final draws (including semi-final pairings) for the CAF Champions League is scheduled to begin at about 6:00pm (West African Time) at the Intercontinental Cairo Semiramis.
