The Zainab Saleh International Female Open Karate Championship will take place from 21st to 24th October, 2021 at the Dr. Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslmin Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The seventh edition of West Africa’s top women’s Karate competition is returning after the Covid-19 pandemic caused it to be cancelled last year.

“We are glad to return to competition this year after the lockdown and we are looking forward to having all our women and girls come back to compete,” said Haijya Zainab Saleh, the competition’s passionate founder.

“The pandemic affected us in many ways, but we are eager to see what progress our women Karatekas made despite it all. The Championship is an opportunity for our women to remain active and to grow the community of female Karatekas ,” she said.

Registration for the championship is in progress while a social media video showing the defiance of women Karatekas was launched recently to announce the competition.

The Zainab Saleh Karate Championship will commence on October 21 with a Referees Course taken by the Secretary of the African Karate Federation (UFAK), Mr. Olusegun Akinola, with team arrivals and registration inside the Dr. Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Competition starts on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 with team departures scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2021.
