African Champion Sunmisola Balogun has qualified for the 12th All Africa Games in Morocco next August. The former National Youth Champion beat Bayelsa’s Deyei Teimene by 6-1 and Nigeria Army’s Winnie Gofit 1-1 to win gold in the women’s 72kg freestyle event at the ongoing 3rd Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classics in Yenegoa, Bayelsa state.
An elated Balogun said that qualifying for the All African Games was her target while preparing for this competition thanking God for the opportunity He gave to her.
She said, “What really encouraged me is that I lost my Daddy about two years ago and I promised him that anytime I have a competition I will always win for him”.
“With that promise, I have to do whatever it takes to win no matter the opposition”.
On the fight against Gofit, Balogun said that it was a difficult one but I thank God for the victory. “I believe I trained more than her and that really encouraged me for the match. I train three times a day with or without competitions, that is my daily routine at getting better in wrestling,” she said.
