Nigeria’s weightlifting star Lawal Rafiatu Folashade will represent the country at the 2025 IWF World Championships in Førde, Norway, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 28-year-old lifter will compete for the first time in the 58kg category at the World Championships, which take place in Førde from October 2 to 11, 2025.

Lawal has built an impressive career, racking up gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the 2019 and 2024 African Games in Rabat and Accra, and three African Championship titles in Nairobi, Kenya (2021), Tunis, Tunisia (2023), and Ismailia, Egypt (2024).

She also claimed gold at the 2021 Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent and most recently represented Nigeria at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where she finished 5th in the 59 kg category.

Now competing in the 58 kg class, Lawal has the chance to showcase her strength and consistency against the world’s best, carrying both her personal ambition and the weight of Nigeria’s proud weightlifting legacy.

All eyes will be on Førde as she looks to further cement her standing among the world’s elite lifters.
