Head coach of Nigeria U20 women’s national team, Moses Aduku, is confident in the progress his team has made as they prepare for their third-round FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against Senegal, www.aclsports.com reports.
The two-time FIFA World Cup silver-medallists’ training camp in Abuja has proven highly effective, with every invited player actively participating and responding positively to the coaches’ guidance. The sessions emphasised enhancing tactical understanding, fostering team unity, and fine-tuning overall game strategies. Aduku commended the players for their commitment, discipline, and high level of intensity during the preparations.
He stressed that focus is firmly on the upcoming qualifier, underlining the need to achieve a strong result in the first leg at home. Recent friendly matches have allowed the coaching staff to evaluate the team’s tactics and refine their approach, paying special attention to enhancing attacking play while keeping the defence solid. Aduku described the team’s performances so far as promising.
Aduku was cautious with predictions but said he is confident in his team’s quality and attitude, noting their strong showings in recent friendlies. Their last competitive outing saw the Falconets lift the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Girls’ Cup title in Adjohoun without losing a single game. He added that the team is determined to make the nation proud and qualify.
The first leg will be played at Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on Saturday, 7 February, with the return leg scheduled for Saturday, 14 February, in Dakar, Senegal. The Falconets will arrive in Ibadan on 27 January to continue their final preparations ahead of the crucial clash.
The winner of the Nigeria–Senegal match will advance to the final round of African qualifying to face the winner of Guinea-Bissau vs. Malawi, competing for one of Africa’s four spots at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland from 5–27 September 2026.
