Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, on Tuesday, www.aclsports.com reports.

According to a report in the PUNCH, the retired military officer was reportedly involved in a road accident in Umunede, Delta State, and was later confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital in Agbor.

Meanwhile, Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, have already released a statement to confirm the story on Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident. May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones,” the club said in a statement released via their official X account.

It will be recalled that Ndidi, who recently led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the just-concluded AFCON in Morocco, spoke glowingly about his dad when he scored his first international goal for the country in the win over Tunisia.

“The celebration came from my dad because he was always talking about Kanu Nwankwo. So I just thought about my dad. I had seen the video before, but it came to my head, and I said I was going to do it for my dad,” the former Leicester City man told reporters about his celebration in that AFCON group game in Fes.
