Everton forward, Wayne Rooney has been charged with drink-driving, the Cheshire Police said.

The former England international was arrested around 2am, after police officers stopped a black Volkswagen Beetle on Altrincham road, Wilmslow.

He has since been released on bail and will appear in court on the 18th of this month.

He retired late last month from international football, having represented the Three Lions 119 times, more than any outfielder.
