Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has signed a new contract with Premier League club Brentford, keeping him in west London until 2027, www.aclsports.com reports.
Onyeka joined the then newly promoted Brentford from Danish side Midtjylland in the summer of 2021.
Since his arrival, Onyeka has gone ahead to make 41 Premier League appearances for the Bees and has now been rewarded with a new deal with an option for an additional 12 months.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank spoke glowingly about Frank Onyeka and his importance to the Premier League club.
“I’m very pleased that Frank has signed a new contract,” began head coach Thomas Frank. “He has helped the team a lot during our time in the Premier League.
“During both seasons he has been unlucky with injuries, which have prevented him from taking an even bigger step forward in terms of minutes, but I really like his energy.
“Frank is a great pressing player. He runs into the half-spaces and in behind, progressing up the pitch. He’s a very important player for us and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with him.”
Onyeka has made some impact in the club’s iconic moments over the past two campaigns, including starts in the win against Arsenal at Gtech Community Stadium in 2021 and victory away at champions Manchester City.
The 25-year-old also provided goal contributions in two games last season, helping the Bees to a top-half Premier League finish.
Onyeka began his career with Ebedei, a Nigerian club with links to Midtjylland, before a move to the Danish side in 2017 and in 2021 moved to the Premier League to join Brentford as a two-time Danish league title winner.
Onyeka, who has racked up 20 caps for Nigeria, featured in 21 Premier League games last season, starting just eight of them.
Following his new deal, Onyeka will be hoping to nail down a regular starting berth at the London club in the coming 2023/24 Premier League season that starts this weekend.
