Edo Queens moved to the top of the NWFL Premiership Super Six table after a commanding 6-2 victory over Abia Angels, while Bayelsa Queens claimed a 2-1 derby win against Rivers Angels on matchday three, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Benin-based side produced another devastating attacking display to secure a second consecutive win, bouncing back impressively from their opening-day defeat to Nasarawa Amazons.

Chioma Moses was the star of the encounter, scoring four times as Edo Queens overwhelmed an Abia Angels side that had entered the game unbeaten.

The forward needed only three minutes to break the deadlock, but Abia Angels responded through Mariam Abdulrasheed eight minutes later to restore parity. Edo Queens regained control just before the interval when Moses grabbed her second goal in first-half stoppage time.

Edo Queens took charge after the restart. Substitute Precious Oscar continued her knack for making an impact from the bench by extending the lead in the 52nd minute before league-leading scorer Atume Doosuur added a fourth two minutes later for her first goal of the Super Six campaign.

Moses completed her hat-trick in the 72nd minute before adding a fourth goal nine minutes later, taking her tally to nine league goals and six goals in three Super Six matches. Blessing Saleh grabbed a late consolation for Abia Angels, but it did little to alter the outcome.

Bayelsa Queens claimed bragging rights with a 2-1 victory over Rivers Angels in the South-South derby in the second game of the day.

Chiamaka Ezekwugo put Bayelsa Queens in front midway through the first half before Rivers Angels drew level through Abasiofon Uwah’s penalty in the 58th minute. Uwah’s effort was her 12th goal of the season, leaving her one behind Doosuur in the race for the golden boot.

However, Bayelsa Queens restored their advantage five minutes later when Dorshima Taarnum found the winner to hand the defending champions a vital three points.

FC Robo Queens also bounced back from successive defeats to secure their first win of the tournament, ending Nasarawa Amazons’ perfect start to the Super Six with a 2-0 victory. After frustrating the Lafia side for much of the contest, Robo struck twice in the second half through Opeyemi Ajakaye, who scored her seventh goal of the season, and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who netted her 11th. The victory revived Robo Queens’ hopes heading into the final two rounds while handing Nasarawa Amazons their first defeat of the competition.

With three rounds completed, Edo Queens sit atop the Super Six standings on goal difference, level on six points with Nasarawa Amazons. Bayelsa Queens occupy third place on four points, while Abia Angels, Rivers Angels and FC Robo Queens remain firmly in contention as the competition enters its decisive phase.

The race for the NWFL Premiership crown resumes on Friday, 12 June, with FC Robo Queens facing Bayelsa Queens, Abia Angels taking on Nasarawa Amazons, and Edo Queens meeting Rivers Angels in another crucial round of Super Six fixtures.
