Two away wins were recorded for the first time in a single match day this season while three more games ended in draws in Sunday’s action in the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

High flying FC Ifeanyiubah recorded their first away win of the season as they stretched their unbeaten run to five games during which they are yet to let in a goal. The Anambra Warriors produced a disciplined display to beat newly promoted Kada City 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna with Chibuike Eze scoring the winner in the 62nd minute.

The day’s other away win was recorded at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe where Wikki Tourists are playing their home matches this season. The Tourists were beaten 1-0 by Sunshine Stars with the match winner scored ten minutes from time by Chibundu Amah who bundled home a rebound after Sunday Abe’s spot kick was saved by Wikki goalkeeper Ibrahim.

Ladan Bosso led Gombe United to his former home in Umuahia where the Desert Scorpions forced Abia Warriors to a 0-0 draw. It also ended scoreless between Plateau United and Kano Pillars at the Lafia Township Stadium.

The final draw on the day was recorded at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna where Niger Tornadoes were held to a 0-0 draw by Insurance. Isah Azado missed a ninth minute penalty for the hosts as they continue their search for a first win this season.

Nominal champions Lobi Stars were the biggest winners this match day when a first half blitz saw them hammer Kwara United 3-0 in Makurdi. In-form Ivorian Yaya Kone scored twice after Michael Stephens had put the home side in front early on. Remo Stars playing at the Osogbo Township Stadium beat Katsina United 2-0. Victor Mbaoma and Kingsley Akemini with the goals for the Sky Blues.

There were also 1-0 wins for Rivers United against MFM (courtesy of Austine Opara’s own goal) as well as Yobe Stars’ first win of the season over Heartland in Damaturu (James Odeh’s 65th minute winner) while Ajani Ibrahim’s first half goal was enough for Rangers to down Enyimba.

Two matches will hold on Monday in conclusion of Match Day 5. Go Round host El-Kanemi in Omoku while Nasarawa United entertain Akwa United in Lafia.
