Niger Tornadoes defeated bottom side Gombe United 5-0 to continue their good run of form in the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Ikon Allah Boys, who have been in a good vein of form after wins over Shooting Stars and an emphatic away win at Bendel Insurance on Wednesday, strolled past the Gombe side to move eight points clear off the drop zone. In-form Clinton Jeptha opened and ended the scoring as Chidiebere Ernest, Mohammed Hussaini, and Bashir Usman all scored in the resounding victory.

In Katsina, league leaders Rangers International of Enugu saw their 10-game unbeaten come to an end in a seven-goal thriller.  Azeez Falolu and Michael Ibe scored for the home side, while Saviour Isaac and Godwin Obaje scored for the visitors in the blistering first 20 minutes at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium.

Former Rangers man Ibe then completed his brace before the break before Andrew Idoko added another after the interval but there was still time for the Flying Antelopes to grab another goal through Joel Odoh in the closing stages of the game.

Alao Danbani scored the only goal as Lobi Stars beat Enyimba 1-0 at the Lafia City Stadium to move up to second on the log. The Pride of Benue returned to winning ways after a draw against Sporting Lagos in midweek and have now garnered the same points (51) as the leaders – Rangers – with nine games to go.

In Akure, Muniru Abdulrahman’s first-half goal for Bayelsa United was cancelled out by Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji midway through the second half as the two teams settled for a share of the spoils. It also ended 1-1 between Kwara United and Bendel Insurance in Ilorin.

In Aba, Heartland defeated Sporting Lagos 3-1 to drag the Lagos side back into the relegation battle as we approach the final weeks of the season.

Match Day 30 games will come up next weekend with crucial games at both ends of the table to look out for.
