NPFL League leaders, Remo Stars, suffered another defeat on the road when they lost 2-1 to Bendel Insurance in their match day 28 clash on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Ikenne side, who have opened an healthy lead at the summit following Shooting Stars’ slump in form, were handed their second successive defeat on the road, as race for the title and continental places took a new twist.

Bendel Insurance got the game’s first goal after just two minutes when Uche Collins headed a cross from Stanley Okorom back to Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi to finish into the top left-hand corner.

The league leaders, who were missing skipper Nduka Junior and Michael Tochukwu due to suspension, struggled to create chances in the game as the home side dominated for most periods in the first half.

Just like they did in the opening half, the home side doubled their lead just ten minutes upon the restart. Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi sent a stunning effort past the hapless Obassa Adeniyi into the corner for his second of the day.

With the game already in its dying moments, the Sky Blue Stars pulled one back through Samuel Anakwe via a cross from Sodiq Ismail,  but the home side held on for their eighth consecutive home win.

Ikorodu City compound Lobi Stars’ woes

Ikorodu City visited Lobi Stars at their newly adopted home ground – Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu – and came away with all three points.

In-form Shola Adelani, who grabbed his 9th league goal of the season, scored the game’s only goal to seal the Oga Boys’ second away win of the season.

Consequently, the Lagos-based side moved into third spot pending the remaining games of match day 28. On the other hand, Lobi Stars remain rooted to the bottom of the log with 23 points – eight points adrift of safety.

Rivers United left it late against Tornadoes

Finidi George’s men needed a late goal from midseason signing Samson Obi to take all three points at the expense of Niger Tornadoes in Port Harcourt.

The Pride of Rivers’ win reduced Remo Stars’ lead to eight points, as the race for continental slots gather momentum with 10 match days to go.
