With just four matches before the end of the regular 2022-23 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Akwa United head coach Ayodeji Ayeni has revealed that his team want to end the season on a high, stressing that his boys will keep fighting for all available points.
Akwa United will engage Kwara United on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the Nest of Champions. The Matchday 15 fixture was shifted from Sunday to Monday by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) due to the CAF Confederation Cup Quarter Final match between Rivers United and Young Africans.
Ayeni told the club’s website www.akwaunitedfc.com that his team is in good shape to fight for all three points on Monday.
“Gradually, we are getting towards the end of the season and our four remaining games are very crucial to us because we cannot afford to drop any more points. That is why we have made up our minds to approach all those games with a positive mindset.
“We are still focusing on our target which is to make it to the playoffs and for us to qualify, we need to win our games. We know that the match with Kwara United will be a tough one and we are fully prepared to give our best to ensure we get all three points.
“In our last two games, we only managed to get one point from a possible six and we have to recover those points that we lost. I’m happy that my boys are all in good shape and are hungry to play so it’s up to us to do our best and ensure we record victory on Monday”.
When the pair met in the first fixture in Ibadan, Kwara United claimed a 2-1 win over Akwa United, while the Promise Keepers need a win to keep their super 6 aspirations alive this time around.
The Akwa Ibom side are third in Group A with 23 points from 14 games, while Kwara United are 8th on the log with just 13 points from the same number of games.
