Former NPFL champions Akwa United claimed their first win under Kennedy Boboye as they beat Enyimba 2-1 at home on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The former Sunshine Stars handler, who took over before the start of the second stanza, had led them to three games without a win, but they eventually got their first maximum points at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Olayemi Ogunleye opened the scoring for the Promise Keepers after 26 minutes, before the Aba side responded with the game’s equalizer through Mohammed Issah five minutes before the break. Mid-season recruit Uche Sebastine then grabbed the winner with a quarter of an hour to go.
By virtue of the win, the Promise Keepers moved up to 18th on the log, while Lobi Stars dropped to the bottom spot after losing 1-0 to Rivers United in Port-Harcourt.
In Lagos, high-flying Ikorodu City came from a goal down to beat Kwara United 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Junior Aimufua handed the visitors the lead after just 39 seconds before Toheeb Ajeyigbe equalized for the hosts in the 7th minute. Four minutes after the hour mark, Shola Adelani headed home a corner from Uzondu Harrison to complete the comeback.
Imama Amapakabo’s Abia Warriors brushed aside Sunshine Stars 3-0 in Umuahia. Goals from Chigozie Ihundu (own goal), Anthony Ijoma and Samuel Ogunjimi decided the one-sided contest.
The game between Bayelsa United and Rangers ended goalless, while Plateau United grabbed a point off Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna.
Earlier on Saturday, Shooting Stars beat Bendel Insurance 1-0 to remain eight points behind leaders Remo Stars who also defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 in Ikenne.
