2017 Aiteo Cup champions Akwa United arrived Port Harcourt on Thursday for a three-day camping ahead of next week’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six playoff in Lagos, reports www.aclsports.com

United who finished top of Group B in the 2018/19 abridged league season arrived at the Garden City with a squad of twenty-five (25) players and officials ahead of the tournament which is due to commence next Tuesday at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

League’s topscorer Mfon Udoh heads the list of players named by team’s head coach Rafael Everton and they have had their first training session at the practice pitch of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in the Greater Port Harcourt city on Thursday evening.

Akwa United’s media officer Mfon Patrick informed www.ACLSports.com that the team’s decision to camp in neighbouring Port Harcourt is to allow the players get used to artificial playing surface which will be used for the eight-day tournament in Lagos.

The home ground of the Promise Keepers – Nest of Champions, Uyo – is of natural grass and would not give them the sort of familiarisation they need for the championship hence the choice of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium practice pitch.

The team will depart Port Harcourt for Lagos early next week ahead of the Super Six Championship playoff. They will face Group B rivals Kano Pillars in their first game of the round robin challenge at 5pm on Tuesday.
