Nasarawa Amazons Head Coach Christopher Danjuma and team captain Matthias Josephine have spoken confidently about their side’s readiness and determination to right the wrongs of their recent disappointment in the NWFL Super Six, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Amazons narrowly missed out on the league title during the Super Six tournament in Ikenne, where a goalless draw against Edo Queens on the final day crushed their hopes. But Coach Danjuma is not dwelling on the past. Instead, he’s channelling that frustration into motivation for this knockout tie.
“We came close in Ikenne, but things didn’t go our way. Now, it’s a different ball game,” Danjuma said. “This is a knockout round, somebody has to reach the final, and we believe it should be us. We’ve addressed the lapses from that game, and by the grace of God, we will overcome them.”
Reflecting on how he’s motivated his squad for this critical clash, Danjuma emphasized the psychological aspect of the game. “Football is about mentality and setting goals. I’ve focused on strengthening the players’ mindset and ensuring they channel their energy into delivering a better performance this time around.”
Good news for Amazons fans is that the team will be at full strength, with the coach confirming, “All our players are fit as fiddles.”
Team captain Matthias Josephine, recently called up to the Super Falcons for the friendly matches against Cameroon, shared the squad’s hunger and resolve ahead of the semi-final at Ayingba. “We were deeply disappointed after the Super Six,” Josephine admitted. “But we’ve had honest conversations among ourselves. This is the last trophy left this season, we have to give everything.”
Josephine pointed to the team’s preparation and unity as key strengths heading into the match. “We’re ready physically, mentally, and as a team. We saw what it took to win this Cup in 2019, and we’re prepared to double that effort now. We know what’s at stake.”
As Nasarawa Amazons aim to avenge their Super Six heartbreak and book their place in the final, the message from both coach and captain is crystal clear: they’re focused, fired up, and fully committed to finishing the job this time around.
