Two goals by skipper Rasheedat Ajibade gave the Super Falcons of Nigeria a confidence-boosting 2-0 victory over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in a pre-WAFCON international friendly on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, www.aclsports.com reports.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was the star of the evening, netting both goals in a dominant first-half performance. The forward opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, before doubling Nigeria’s lead in the 43rd minute with a clinical finish following a swift attacking move set up by winger Rinsola Babajide.

The match formed part of Nigeria’s final preparations for the 13th edition of the WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.

Speaking after the win, head coach Justine Madugu hailed the result as a timely morale boost for his side.

“It’s a valuable psychological boost for the players as we intensify our preparations for the tournament,” he said.

Goal scorer Rasheedat Ajibade expressed gratitude to God, her teammates, and the fans, emphasizing that their support was instrumental in her strong performance.

Nine-time WAFCON champions Nigeria are aiming to reclaim their dominance on the continent after falling short in the 2022 edition.

The friendly against Cameroon also offered Madugu one final opportunity to assess his squad under competitive conditions before naming his final tournament roster.

With the tournament looming, the Super Falcons’ performance in Abeokuta will offer fans renewed hope as Nigeria eyes a tenth continental crown.
