Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi, has opened his goal account for the 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign as Nice beat Auxerre 3-1 at home, www.aclsports.com reports.
26-year-old Moffi endured a frustrating campaign last season, spending the majority of it sidelined by injury and managing only five league outings. Now back to full fitness, he wasted no time in making an impact, finding the net in just his second league game of the 2025/26 season at the Allianz Riviera on Saturday night.
It did not take long for the hosts to score their first goal of the game as Jeremie Boga met a perfect cross from Tom Louchet with an absolute gem of a control before firing into the net in the third minute. However, they were pegged back by the visitors in the 21st minute when Lassine Sinayoko levelled for the visitors with a smart finish from inside the box.
Just three minutes later, Les Aiglons were back in front through Clement Akpa’s own goal. It then became a tough battle from there on, with the visitors trying to get back into the game. However, all their hopes were dashed when goalkeeper Leon Donovan was sent off in first half stoppage time. Super Eagles defender Gabriel Osho, who was on the roster of Auxerre, had to be replaced for substitute goalkeeper Theo De Percin to come on.
With the numerical advantage, Les Aiglons pushed for a cushion goal, and they duly got it in the 76th minute. Just three minutes after coming on as a substitute, Moffi headed home a Louchet’s cross that the Auxerre goalkeeper missed to get his first goal of the campaign. After a short VAR check, the goal was given, and the home side went ahead to see out the game for their first win of the new Ligue 1 season.
Moffi, who has been named in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, will be hoping to add to his tally when Nice travel to Le Havre in their next game before the international window.
