Karate: Team Nigeria dazzle in Abidjan

Team Nigeria won a total of three medals – two gold and one bronze – at the just-concluded Ufak Zone 3 Championship in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire at the weekend.

Olorunmbe Benjamin won gold in the individual Kata event while Ifeanyi Ogene clinched gold in the 67kg event. Fagboro Agboola, Benjamin and Fagboro Dimeji teamed up to win bronze in the Kata team event.

The tournament which held between 7th to 12th of May, had eight participating teams from West Africa: Ghana, Togo, Benin, Liberia, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and hosts Cote D’ivoire.

President of the Nigeria Karate Federation (NKF) who doubles as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Mr. Silas Agara lauded members of the Federation’s board for their unflinching support to ensure a successful Championship.

Agara also showered praise on the Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung for his immense support in making sure the Federation moves to greater heights.
