Karate: Registration for Zianab Saleh Female Ch’shps opens

International Karate referee, Zainab Saleh said the registration for the 5th edition of the Zainab Saleh International Female Open Karate Championship will begin on 30th August 2018.

Saleh said the registration would close on 14th October, 2018.

The former Technical Director of the Lagos State Karate Association, said the championship which would take place at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos would hold from 26th to 28th October, 2018.

“The competition, which is the fifth in the series since 2014 when the first edition was held, is open to female Karatekas in the senior and junior cadres.

“Under both cadres we have all together nine weight categories. In the senior cadre, which is for those who are 18 and above, we have the individual Kumite -50kg, – 55kg, -61kg, -68kg and +68kg.

“Also, we have in the junior cadre, which is for those aged between 16 and 17, we have the individual Kumite -48kg, -53kg, -59kg and +59kg,’’ Saleh added.

Speaking on the relevance of the competition, the former Technical Director said it was both timely and important.

“As the karate sport is set to make its first appearance at the Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020, more competitions are required. This is to ensure that practitioners in Nigeria find avenues to improve themselves ahead of the big unveil” she said.
