Team Nigeria experienced mixed fortunes at the ongoing ITTF Africa Championship as the team event came to a close on Wednesday evening.

Reigning ITTF Nigeria Open Champion, Aruna Quadri lead team Nigeria to a 3-1 win over Egypt accounting for two of the three wins recorded by the team. The Portugal based player defeated Egypt’s Saleh Ahmed and EL-BEIALI Mohammed 3-2 while veteran, Segun Toriola overcame Assar Khalid as Nigeria emerged African Champion in the male team event.

In the female event former African Champion, Funke Oshonaike did well to recover from her first set loss to defeat Abdel-Aziz Farah but it wasn’t enough as Dina Meshref inspired the Egyptian ladies to a 3-1 win over Nigeria.

Asides winning the men’s team Gold medal, Nigeria will return to the ITTF World Team Cup for the first time since 2010 where they will represent the continent in the 2019 World Team Cup set to hold in Japan.
