Guinea will be doing without Baissama Sankoh at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations after the 27-year-old was pronounced unfit for the tournament following an injury he sustained during the Syli National’s friendly match against Egypt (1-3) on Sunday.
Guinea FA has announced that Sankoh, who plays for French club Caen, will be replaced by Vancouver Whitecaps winger Lass Bangoura, 27, who is expected to touch down in Egypt on Wednesday.
Bangoura, a former Reims player, had been nursing a thigh injury but was cleared for game action by his club last week.
Guinea will open their AFCON campaign against Madagascar on Saturday in Group B before clashes with Nigeria and Burundi.
Guinea are embarking on their 12th AFCON tournament. Only Senegal have more appearances (15) without ever winning the title.
