Plateau Peacocks on Sunday halted the unbeaten run of Imo Grasshopper in the women’s category of the second pahse of the Prudent Energy Handball League after a 29-20 win in Lagos.

The youthful Peacocks dictated the pace of the game in the first half but the former African Champions, Grasshoppers withheld the tempo as the half ended 12-12.

The second half produced brilliant saves from the Plateau Peacocks shot stopper, Toyin Yusuf who is also the U18 National team goalkeeper.

Hope Sunday dismantled the defence line of the Imo Grasshoppers converting four penalties.

Reacting, the coach of Plateau Peacocks, Yusuf Abdulquadri told aclsports.com that the team was engineered to stop the dominance of Imo grasshoppers in Nigeria.

Abdulquadri stated that this is the second time the Plateau based team are beating Imo Grasshoppers.

“The team has been together for over a year and we have a mission to achieve in the league. Imo has been dominating handball circle for more than thirty years; so the only way to break the jinx is to go back to the grassroots and bring up raw talent.

“This is the second time we are beating them this year; we beat them at the first phase with two goals and now with nine goals. This is to tell you that we have complimented on our past performance”, he said.

He said every member of the Plateau Peacocks stands a chance of going to the next level in handball.

“The team put in all her best because this is going to take them to the next level; they will be known and their careers are about to start. I told them they have to put in their very best to make sure it is a success”.
