FIBAACCW: First Bank record second straight win

First Bank Basketball Club recorded their second straight win with a 95-71 win over Kenya Ports Authority on Sunday at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in Maputo, Mozambique.

Ginette Makiese’s double-double was enough to beat the Kenyans who started poorly in the first quarter. Makiese scored 21 points and 13 rebounds in the game.

The Elephant Girls limited KPA to just 4 points in the opening quarter of the game (35-4). They however gained momentum in the second quarter reducing the deficit to 22 points after outscoring First Bank (25-16).

Nkechi Akashili had 17 points, 3 assists and 2 steals, Malaika Green added 14 points and 4 rebounds. Jasmine Nwajei made 10 points and 4 assists while Nkem Akaraiwe contributed 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

First Bank shot 51.40% FG, 47.60 % from the arc and 13/19 from the line against KPA.

Jamila Nansikombi scored 27 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals while Brigid Nanzala Nyongesa added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists for Kenya Ports Authority.

KPA rallied back in the last quarter (26-25) but wasn’t enough to turn the corner after a disappointing start. They shot 43% of their FG and 12 of 23 from the free throw line with a turn over of 17.

First Bank will play their next game on Monday against Lakers of Zimbabwe who lost their opening game to Kenya Ports Authority.
