FIBA AfroLeague draws scheduled for next week

The draws for the 2019 FIBA AfroLeague competition has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 12th in Abidjan.

The statement was contained in letter sent to the President of Zones, and National Federations of participating clubs from the following countries Angola, Benin Republic, DR Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria Rwanda and Tunisia by the FIBA Africa Secretary General Alphonse Bile.

Nigeria’s representatives Rivers Hoopers and Civil Defenders and 14 others will know their opponents at the draw ceremony on Saturday.

Rwanda Energy Group Basketball Club (REG) have been given a wild card to join 15 other teams who had earlier qualified from their various zones.

The sixteen teams expected to be drawn into four groups of four include:

JS Kairouan and ES Rades (Tunisia), AS Sale (Morocco), SLAC (Guinea), Rivers Hoopers and Civil Defenders (Nigeria), Elan Sportif (Benin Republic), Terreur and BC Mazembe (DR Congo), Al Ahly and Smouha (Egypt), Ferroviario da Beira (Mozambique), Clube Desportivo de Agosto and AtleticoPetroleos de Luanda (Angola), COSPN (Madagascar) and REG (Rwanda).

The tournament will run from January to April 2019 in three phases: group stage, elite 8 and finals.
