Rivers Angels FC captain, Catherine Kenneth, says her team is determined not to repeat the mistakes of the NWFL Super Six as they gear up for the President Federation Cup final against Nasarawa Amazons, www.aclsports.com reports.
Still haunted by their defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in the NWFL Super Six, Kenneth insists the team has learned valuable lessons and is ready to bounce back.
“We don’t want a repeat of that experience,” she said. “I still think about that game. I see where we got it wrong. This is a cup final, and we’re giving it everything, especially knowing it could be our 10th Federation Cup title.”
The nine-time champions are already in Lagos, where they lifted the trophy just last year. Now, with a chance to cement their legacy, Rivers Angels are determined to make it back-to-back titles.
Kenneth, a leader both on and off the pitch, was candid about her role in the Super Six loss:
“In a way, I blame myself. We didn’t take our chances, and on that second goal, I could’ve done better, tracking back, covering. But that’s gone now. We’ve regrouped. We’re ready to fight.”
She’s been working hard to motivate the squad, especially the players chasing their first major title.
“I’ve been talking to them, trying to get everyone locked in. Some of them have never won this cup before, so I keep reminding them what it means. It’s a big moment, for them and for me. We’re doing everything we can, both spiritually and on the pitch.”
Returning to Lagos has stirred emotions, she added: “The emotions are hard to describe,” she said. “The euphoria of going back to that same big stage, to that same crowd, it’s massive. We really want to win again.”
She believes lifting the cup at the same venue last year gives them a mental edge heading into Saturday’s game.
“We’ll treat that pitch like our home ground,” Kenneth stated confidently. “That’s where we lifted the trophy last year, so we’re going there without tension, just to enjoy our game and make sure we lift that trophy again.”
To the fans who have stood by them through every high and low, Kenneth had a heartfelt message:
“They’ve always been there for us, win or lose, and I want to say a massive thank you. Please come out in large numbers again. By God’s grace, we’ll put a smile on your faces.”
With one more win standing between them and a historic 10th title, Rivers Angels are heading into the final with purpose, pride, and the pressure of legacy.
